The first year (1970) the players voted on a winner because all guys play some games better than others according to Jack Binion. In 1971 it changed to the elimination format, and Binion could only get 6 people to play.


Eric Drache was the director from 1973 to 1988. He invented satellites as he would see 10 people with 1,000 dollars in front of them, but none willing to put up 10,000 dollars.


In 1987 lakers owner Jerry Buss threw Johnny Chan a $100 chip and said, "Can I have 1% of you in the World Series?" Chan handed him $10,000 when he won.

In 2003, Moneymaker won from 839 entrants, In 2004 Raymer won from a field of 2,576. this year the field is expected at about 6,600 talk about an explosion.
