So… I thought it went well. And the folks from Cold Pizza seemed to go well. We shall see. But it was col and fun regardless. A little weird. I’m in LA. They do the show in NYC. So I was just in this little production studio at 5:30am with a camera man and a engineer. That’s it. I got Buster Olney and John Anderson (in for Jay Crawford) in my ear, along with a Cold Pizza producer. I can’t see them - there’s no monitor - just a camera. And I can hear their voices.

If you missed it, I found out at 4:30 am that JD Drew went on the DL, so they decided to lead with that instead of Bret Boone, like we talked about on Sunday. So I scrambled and told them what I thought, which remains true right now: I think it helps Jayson Werth’s value, because he will hit in the middle of the line-up, I think you’ll see Cesar Izturis (when he comes back) and Antonio Perez steal a lot more as they try to manufacture runs and feel free to drop the Dodger pitchers down another notch…

The we got to Boone, who, as I said yesterday, I think is a great buy low candidate. 13 HR and 47 RBI post All-Star last year and you know he’ll go to a contender. Then it was Kenny Rogers, who, if you read this regularly, you know I am not a fan of…his ERA in June was 5.24 (Buster had the same stat and beat me to it ) and Rogers walked twice as many batters per 9 in June than in May… sell high. Or, as high as you can, off of his start vs. SEA…

Finally, we talked Sosa, who, if you haven’t noticed, has been terrible and is now looking more like a 4th OF. He had more strikeouts in June than in April and May combined and, as I told Buster, no truth to the rumor that Sosa demanded a limo drive to the bench…

Nice notes from many - thank you to all - and chat regular Coach Zuck gave me **** about not wearing a jacket and tie, like Buster. To which I respond… I am calling myself "The Talented Mr. Roto, making limo jokes and talking fantasy baseball. If I show up in a tie, I think I look like a tool.

Onto the day in baseball now, where I’ll just say there were some very impressive pitching performances…That was the Ben Sheets we all drafted and Scott Olsen continues to make his case to stick in the FLA rotation. As I said before - I like him a lot - this year and the rest of the way…. Scott Elarton with an impressive CG - he has been really terrific for the most part recently and the Indians offense will be this legit the rest of the way too… Second strong start for John Patterson after a rough patch and I don’t believe it, but if you were forced to start Kaz Ishii, he rewarded you. And the key was only 1 walk. Still don’t think he can do that consistently…

I gotta admit, a long time ago - when he was with the A’s and then early in his Blue Jay career, I was a Cory Lidle fan. Then I gave up. And did not believe, especially with Philly’s new park. And sure, it’s only the Pirates, but still. Guy has been nothing short of terrific…And the bizarre BY Kim pitches really well at COORS effect that I pointed out in my Sporting News column last week continues. 6 IP, 5 hits, 0 ER and a 6/0 K/BB. Nutty…Finally, a good start from Kyle Davies but beware. Once again, he walked more (4) than he struck out (3). His future is bright but I think he might have been called up too soon…

On the other side, not a great day at the office for Bruce Chen, Brandon McCarthy, Jason Johnson. One of those days. I’m not worried….

If you’re wondering what it felt like to own Travus Hafner today, it felt good. Two games, three HR. Yeah, THAT’s what I’m talking about… Interesting to see Mike Cameron in the lead off spot for the Mets. We’ll see if that effects his power numbers. Wonder if the Dodgers would be interested in him? Anyways, Reyes batted 7th but it didn’t matter. He still stole a base… And another SB gives Juan Pierre 22 with 6 days before the AS Break. With apologies to Mark Twain, the reports of his uslessness have been greatly exaggerated…

Edwin Encarnacion of the Reds keeps hanging around, doesn’t he? They said he was going right back down, but he hasn’t. And oh yeah, he’s good, NL Only guys… Another start for Gary Matthews Jr in Texas means another benching for Richard Hidalgo. It’s not an accident…

Jermaine Dye hits another one. Props to Vyse.

I don’t know how you get the Arizona closer job, but I know how you don’t. Giving up 4 ER in a third of an inning like Greg Aquino did. Brian Bruney continues to be the less sucky of all Dback closers..

Thanks to Pete Becker for filling in in the chat last night for me on Sunday. I was doing "Angel Talk" for the ESPN radio affiliate here in LA - we’re the Angels' station (ESPN RADIO 710) and I was filling in. They got rained delayed in KC, so it went longer than expected. I’m gonna try and stop by tonight’s chat at 10 pm EST / 7pm PST. Feel free to drop by and tell me what a tool I looked like on Cold Pizza….
