Jim Feist.
My free pick of the day is the game between (909) COL Rockies and (910) SF Giants. Take "(910) SF Giants". Hard to believe the Giants are one of the hottest teams in baseball, but it's true, winning 8 of 10. The team is playing looser now that the Barry Bonds HR watch is behind them. Barry Zito has turned things around, as well, with a 2.10 ERA his last three starts. Colorado starter Josh Fogg has, well, he hasn't turned things around, with a 9.19 ERA his last three starts. He's 0-2 this season against the Giants and moves to 0-3 here. Play the Giants!

Dave Cokin.
My free pick of the day is the game between (917) TOR Blue Jays and (918) OAK Athletics. Take "(918) OAK Athletics". Dave's coveted Sunday night college football radio plays are no longer on the radio. But the best known trio of selections in the entire industry are still available. Dave's Pure Gold Club is the exclusive 2007 home for these great plays, including Dave's in depth analysis. Go there now and get this week's Big Three for only $100!... "Esteban Loaiza has historically been one of baseball's best out of the gate pitchers. His April numbers are pretty sensational. Obviously, this is not April. But it is for Loaiza, who just came back from a season long DL stint for the A's. And sure enough, the veteran righty with the nasty cutter was in his typical early season form is slamming the Blue Jays. AJ Burnett has also been sharp for the Jays since his latest DL visit. But given Loaiza's peculiar tendencies to be really tough to beat in his first several starts, I'm backing the A's tonight."

BIG AL'S 100% ATS MONDAY NIGHT GAME OF THE YEAR
Monday
At 8 pm, on Monday, our Preseason Monday Night Football Game of the Year is on the Cincy Bengals minus the points over Atlanta. Last week, Marvin Lewis' squad fell to 0-2 with a 27-19 loss at home to the Saints, while Atlanta moved to 1-1 with an upset on the road, 13-10, over Buffalo. This will be a great spot for Cincinnati, as 0-2 teams off a loss as a favorite are a perfect 9-0 ATS since 1983 in the preseason on the road, if they're matched up against a home team off an upset win. Take Cincy. Good luck, as always...Al McMordie

Ben Burns' #1 National League East Game of the Month (13-2 L15 MLB!)
Including yesterday's NL Central GOM Winner on Houston, Ben Burns enters Monday having gone a magnificent 13-2 (87%) with his last 15 MLB plays. That's no surprise though as Burns has had several simply amazing winning streaks this baseball season. Burns returns to the Winner's Circle with his NL East Game of the Month.

Ben Burns Monday Night Total of the Month
UNDER falcons/bengals
Game: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Atlanta Falcons Game Time: 8/27/2007 8:00:00 PM Prediction: under Reason: I'm playing on the Falcons and Bengals to finish UNDER the total. The Bengals saw last week's game vs. the Saints finish above the total. However, the Saints were one of the highest scoring teams in the league last season while the Falcons are currently still trying to find their identity on offense. Additionally, a closer look shows that the Bengals first team offense only managed three points in the first quarter of the Saints game, finishing with 19. That probably sounds pretty good to Atlanta's starting offense though as the Falcons managed only six points in the entire first half of their last game, none of them coming in the first quarter. Marvin Lewis has no worries about his offense. Lewis, who comes from a defensive background, knows his defense need to improve from last season though, if the Bengals want to take the next step. As a result, I expect the Bengals to place a real emphasis on defense tonight and for them to play particularly well on that side of the ball. The Falcons still have real questions at quarterback and its yet to be determined if Harrington, who is 23-43 as a starter, is the answer. I look for a relatively heavy dose of the run from both teams and for the final combined score to be lower than expected. *Monday Night Total of the Month

L.A. Angels at SEATTLE (+110)
It's the second-place Mariners taking on the division-leading Angels and look for Seattle's Safeco Field to be rockin' tonight as the Mariners send Miguel Batista (13-9, 4.57 ERA) to the hill to take on the Angels' John Lackey (15-8, 3.39).
Lackey has been beaten up a bit in his last two outings, losing in Boston and at home to the Yankees. He's allowed 11 runs in those two outings.
Batista got hit hard in his last start but has held the opposition to three earned runs or less in eight of his last 10 starts. Last time he saw the Angels he blanked them over seven innings and led the Mariners to a 2-0 win on July 30.
Seattle has gone 2-1 in Batista's three starts against Los Angeles this season and look for them to get another win tonight. They're tough to beat up in the Pacific Northwest and we're going to back them in this one. Mariners get the win in Game 1 of this series.

Atlanta Braves at Florida Marlins
Monday, August 27th, 7:05 P.M. EDT
The Braves are the top hitting team in the National League and have scored the second most runs. Florida has hit the third most home runs and scored the 4th most runs. Atlanta starter Cormier is 0-4 on the year in five starts with a 9.00 ERA. He has pitched 25 innings, giving up 36 hits while walking 13 and striking out 12. On the road he is 0-2 in three starts with a 10.38 ERA. Florida starter Olsen is 9-11 in 27 starts with a 5.39 ERA. He has yielded 179 hits in 152 IP. ATLANTA is 38-24 OVER when playing against a team with a losing record this season. FLORIDA is 30-21 OVER vs. teams whose hitters strike out 7 or more times/game this season.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Oakland Athletics (MLB) - Aug 27, 2007 10:05 PM EDT
Play: Money Line: Toronto Blue Jays -112
The Blue Jays and Athletics start a 3 game series Monday in Oakland. The Blue Jays are the road team. However, it is the Athletics that could be suffering from jet lag. The A's are flying in from Tampa Bay as they dropped 3 of 4 to the "powerhouse" D-Rays. Toronto has been in California as they split a 4 game series with the Angels over the weekend. We saw this exact same pitching matchup last week in Toronto as Loaiza was victorious in his first action of the season. However, AJ Burnett was also very effective in that game. He pitched 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and 1 earned run. I have to question if Loaiza can back up his first game performance. However, I am confident Burnett can back his up. The A's simply aren't hitting the ball and they don't have much fire power on offense. I recommend a small 1 Unit play on the Toronto Blue Jays.

BENGALS (Buy the ½ point if your line is -3 ½)
Lay the points with the Bengals tonight on the road against the Falcons.
Much is being made of the controversy surrounding Michael Vick and how the Falcons are going to cope without him this year, but to me this game tonight is going to be more about how the high-powered Bengals offense will finally come alive this preseason.
Cincinnati’s No. 1 offense has failed to score a touchdown this month, covering six possessions. But I liken this game to the Colts most recent game, when Peyton Manning and the No. 1 unit for Indianapolis finally got some playing time and lit it up in the 1st half against the Lions.
Trust me, it’s going to be a carbon copy for Carson Palmer and the Bengals No. 1 unit.
I also expect the Bengals to step it up on defense, where they haven’t stopped anybody through the first two games, giving up 27 points in each contest.
Coach Marvin Lewis will have his team focused as this is their last chance to show something before the regular season starts on September 9.
To be honest with you, I don’t trust Atlanta quarterback Joey Harrington to get the job done tonight, even at home. He’s going to have to put a lot of points on the board to keep up with what should be an offensive onslaught by Cincinnati. Remember, Harrington is still learning the offense under new coach Bobby Petrino, so don’t be surprised if they struggle to put points up tonight.
Take the Bengals and remember to buy the ½ point if your line is -3 ½.
5 Dime –
INDIANS (With Silva and Byrd as listed pitchers)
Take the Indians as the home chalk tonight over the Twins.
Cleveland is trying to stave off Minnesota in the AL Central, and they’ll turn to a starting pitcher who has had great success against them in his career.
Paul Byrd is 9-3 with a 3.59 ERA in 15 career starts against the Twins - his most wins against any opponent. He’s won all three starts against Minnesota this year, including a four-hitter in a 4-0 victory on Aug. 6. The right-hander has also won five of his last six decisions overall.
Minnesota will counter with Carlos Silva, who is 4-5 with a 4.90 ERA in 16 career games against the Indians, including an 0-2 record with a 5.00 ERA in three starts this season.
Two of the Tribe’s best hitters have enjoyed great success against Silva in their careers. Grady Sizemore is batting .487 with two homers, two triples and three doubles while Victor Martinez is hitting .414 with three homers and six doubles lifetime against Silva.
Take the Indians as the home chalk as they grab the win.
ANGELS (With Lackey and Batista as listed pitchers)
Take the Angels as the small road chalk for the win over the Mariners.
Los Angeles has won eight of 12 over Seattle this season and will start John Lackey tonight.
Lackey has yet to allow a run to Seattle this season, totaling 15 innings. The right-hander pitched a complete game shutout against Seattle on July 31 in an 8-0 win. He has won three straight over Seattle, improving his career record to 8-8 against them.
The Mariners will turn to Miguel Batista, who is coming off one of his worst starts of the year. The right-hander gave up a season high-tying eight runs and nine hits over two innings in an 8-4 loss to Minnesota on Wednesday.
Take the Angels as they grab the road win.

Ben Burns Personal Favorite
San Francisco Giants
Game: Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants Game Time: 8/27/2007 10:15:00 PM Prediction: San Francisco Giants Reason: I'm laying the price with the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS. The Giants have really been playing well lately and they rallied for another win yesterday. They're now 4-0 their last four games and 9-2 their last 11. They should have a significant advantage again this evening. Let's take a look at the last two starts of tonight's starters. In Zito's last two starts, he has allowed a mere six hits and two runs through 15 innings. That's a 1.20 ERA! On the other hand, Fogg has allowed 19 hits and 14 earned runs over his last two starts, a span of just 9 2/3 innings. That's a 13.04 ERA! Fogg has also lost both his starts against the Giants this season, losing by scores of 9-5 and 8-3. Conversely, Zito has pitched very well in two of his three starts against the Rockies this season with the Giants going 2-1. In four career starts against the Rockies he has 3.12 ERA with his team going 3-1. The Rockies are just 2-6 their last eight road games. That's no surprise though as they have been poor on the road all season and throughout the entire history of their franchise. Note that the Rockies are also 0-3 their last three games against left-handed starters, losing the last two of those games by a combined score of 16-3. The Giants have always been excellent at getting a new week started on the right foot. They're 10-5 (+5.7) on Mondays this season, 30-16 (+15.7) the last three seasons and a highly profitable 113-61 (+49.5) the past decade. Look for Zito to outpitch Fogg as they pad those stats this evening. *Personal Favorite

Ben Burns NL East Game of the Month
Florida Marlins
Game: Atlanta Braves vs. Florida Marlins Game Time: 8/27/2007 7:05:00 PM Prediction: Florida Marlins Reason: I'm playing on FLORIDA. The Braves have split six games here so far this season. However, they are still an ugly 7-13 their last 20 visits here overall and I expect them to be at a disadvantage this evening. Cormier gets the call for the visitors and he has been absolutely terrible, particularly on the road. Indeed, Cormier is 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA for the season and 0-2 with an awful 10.38 ERA on the road. Note that opposing hitters are batting a whopping .351. Olsen has also had some real trouble on the road. However, he's been respectable at home. In his most recent start here, Olsen allowed only two runs through seven complete innings vs. the Giants. In his previous home start, Olsen held Houston to six hits and three runs (8 K's and 1 walk) through 7 1/3 innings. For the season, he is 7-4 at home (Marlins are 9-5) with a 4.40 ERA, holding opposing hitters to a mere .259 batting average. The Marlins beat the Braves 7-4 at Atlanta when Olsen faced them two months ago. The Marlins also beat the Braves (4-3) the only time that Olsen faced them this season, here in Florida. Olsen outpitched Hudson in that contest, allowing only three earned runs in eight complete innings, striking out 10 while walking only one. Conversely, Cormier is 0-2 (team is 0-3) in three starts vs. the Marlins, recording a terrible 8.69 ERA and 1.792 WHIP. Look for Cormier to struggle again this evening as the Marlins grab the series opener and the Braves fall to 1-5 their last six games against southpaw starters. *NL East Game of the Month

Scott Spreitzer's NFL Preseason Monday Night Game of the Year! *17-6, 74% Run!
I'm laying the field goal on Monday night. The Cinci offense, with all of its potential stars, has really not had the chance to shine yet in the preseason. The lack of playing time has led to a couple of boring outings as Chad Johnson put it. Carson Palmer has thrown just 21 passes, completing 12, and it's been uneventful. He has no TDs and no INTs. But as Johnson and Palmer also said, Monday night gives them a chance for extended play and an opportunity to flex their offensive muscle while developing a rhythm. Marvin Lewis is also looking for extra effort from his starting defense tonight, and I believe he'll be pleased with the outcome. After all, they're facing a mixed-up Falcon offense. Not only do they not have Michael Vick on the roster, but D.J. Shockley is out for the season with a knee injury. We all know Joey Harrington just never materialized into the kind of leader most thought he'd be. Thus far, the Falcons are averaging just 5.85 passing yards per attempt. I don't think they'll improve that stat much on Monday. First of all, the offense is not on the same page. Secondly, they'll be looking to incorporate a healthier Warrick Dunn on the ground quite a bit, according to Petrino. Finally, Marvin Lewis has been a coach who wants to win no matter what time of year it is. He entered this preseason on a 6-1 SU exhibition run. He's made it clear that he wants to leave Atlanta with a well-played victory, after starting 0-2. Look for the Bengals to roll on both sides of the ball. Cincinnati is my Monday Night GOY. Thanks! GL! Scott.

Larry Ness' 15* MNF Game of the Month (perfect 3-0 on Saturday and Sunday!)
My 15* play is on the Cin Bengals at 8:00 ET. The Cardinals and Chiefs are the NFL's lone 0-3 teams in this year's preseason. Tonight in Atlanta, the 0-2 Bengals will be hoping NOT to join them, when they meet the Falcons. The Bengals have been known as the NFL's "most-troubled" team off the field but single-handedly, Michael Vick has allowed the Falcons to "steal that title." While that story may be the "backdrop," this is still a Week 3 game in which teams typically let their starters play. That will be the case here, as both teams will play their starters into the second half. Cincy's defense has been shaky, allowing 27 points to each of its first two opponents and actually allowed the Lions to rack up a total of 548 yards in Week 1! Containing Atlanta's offense will be a much easier task. Joey Harrington is NOT "a big-time player" and it WON'T take long for new head coach Bobby Petrino to come to that inevitable conclusion. This will be Petrino's first home game, as well as Harrington's and while it's only an exhibition game, does anyone seriously believe that Harrington will "rise to the challenge?" Backup QB D.J. Shockey is lost for the season (knee), leaving the job to Chris Redman, who hasn't played in the NFL since 2003. He STUNK when he did play and is only in camp because of his Louisville roots. Carson Palmer will get his "longest look" of the preseason at QB for Cincy and he needs to do something, as the first team offense has yet to score a TD is six possessions. The good news for the second half is that backup QBs Doug Johnson (25-of-43) and rookie Jeff Rowe (11-16) have been effective. The Bengals are a playoff-caliber team and I expect a good effort here, while I see Harrington and the Falcons "falling flat on their faces!" Monday Night Game of the Month 15* Cin Bengals

Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco
Play: Money Line: San Francisco Giants -145
San Francisco is 113-61 since 1997 when playing on Monday. San Francisco is 9-2 last 11 games overall including winning 4 in a row. San Francisco bullpen has a 3.52 ERA at home this year. Josh Fogg is 1-2 with a 9.19 ERA his last 3 starts. Barry Zito has a 2.14 ERA his last 3 starts. Zito has a 3.12 ERA overall vs Colorado since 1997. We'll recommend a small play on San Francisco tonight! Thanks and good luck, Rocky

Game: Tampa Bay at Chicago White Sox (2:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Tampa Bay -107
Not sure if there is a team in baseball worse than the White Sox right now. They are just 2-13 in their last 15 games. We are also not sure if there is a worse pitcher in baseball right now than Jose Contreras. The White Sox are just 1-13 in his last 14 starts, and have allowed an amazing 114 runs in those 14 games good for 8.42 a game. The opponent has scored 5+ runs in all but one of them. We are also not sure if there is a bullpen that is as spent and as bad as the White Sox pen right now. They have worked 16.2 innings in the last five games, allowing 30 hits, 27 runs, and 14 walks. That is 44 baserunners in less than 17 innings. It is also a 14.04 earned-run average. The D-Rays meanwhile, come into Chicago as a hot team. They have won three straight averaging 11 runs a game in the process, and have also won four of five. Edwin Jackson has really turned his season around. He has a 3.45 ERA over his last 13 starts, and has not allowed a HR in his last seven. The Rays take the opener.
